Tip & Wellington's

Flower Shop

Over the summer I had the time to work on a personal project of mine: a 3D modeled flower shop! This project was a concept I came up with my own and was inspired by Tip and Wellington, two friendly, loving neighborhood cats. Tip was a handsome (somewhat rotund) grey and white cat who visited our home for many years; I remember as a child I would see him hunting, walking, or sometimes just sitting in our garden. Many years later, Wellington, a princely black cat, was brought to the neighborhood and he would often accompany Tip in our backyard. Even though they weren't our cats, they greatly enjoyed our company, and they made it a part of their daily routines to visit us. Tip sadly passed away last year, and he spent his last moments sitting peacefully in our garden, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the beauty of the flowers as he always did.

In honor of Tip and his friend Wellington, who still visits us every day, I wanted to make a special flower shop just for them. In my imagination, this is a flower shop that they run and own together, and in the future, I want to create specific characters to add to it.

For this project, I was responsible for all aspects including design, layout, modeling, and lighting. I hope to continue working on this project by adding shading, texturing, and character models.

I started the project with concept drawings and research into local flower shops. This was a sketch I made of the outside of the shop (which I also hope to work on in the future). This design was inspired by the Spanish Village in San Diego.

Next, I started working on individual assets for the set, most of which, involved various flowers and bouquets. This was definitely the most difficult, but most rewarding, part of the project as each bouquet had to look organic and nuanced in its difference from other arrangements.

In creating the smaller details of the shop, I wanted to take inspiration from the real-life garden that Tip and Wellington enjoyed so much. The lanterns, for example, are all modeled after real lights and lamps that my mother put in our backyard throughout the years.

The final layout of the interior of the shop was something I developed throughout the summer. I took a lot of inspiration from Studio Ghibli films in terms of style and general aesthetic. In the future, I hope to shade and texture the flower shop and add those small details to show that cats inhabit and love this space.

I also hope to create 3D models of Tip and Wellington someday.

And last, but certainly not least, here are the two wonderful gentlemen that inspired this project.
